Statistics of War

Introduction

There are statistics that relate with war, available on some web sites of research institutes such as; https://sipri.org/
At this moment, no clear theory is led from the statistics though, by just taking a glance at some, an issue may emerge. Therefore, herein this project “Statistics of War”, whenever an issue is found in those statistics, the issue is introduced.

Relation between International Arms Transfer and Global Military Expenditure

The International Arms Transfer shows continuous decline.

Global arms trade falls slightly, but imports to Europe, East Asia and Oceania rise

On the other hand, just happened to be noticed is somewhat opposite inclination of Global Military Expenditure, that shows almost continuous increase from around 1998, which is a few years later of the end of cold war.

World military expenditure passes $2 trillion for first time

https://sipri.org/media/press-release/2022/world-military-expenditure-passes-2-trillion-first-time

After the end of Cold War, the world has progressed toward peace, which can be represented by such word as “Globalization”, at least, it looked like so for those who have been not aware of real facts. However, the statistics on “World Military Expenditure” looks denying that perception. Thus, in this section, let’s explore into what kind of mechanism is working behind these figures.

There might be some scenarios.

  1. Countries that have not possessed so far sufficient technology for developing and producing weapons by themselves have stopped relying on technologically advanced countries. Instead, the countries have started independently developing the technology of weapons.
  2. Countries that have imported weapons from another countries have been inclined to minimize import by limiting the items to be imported to some area that necessitates too much advanced technological basis so that the degree of reliance on other countries can be minimized. Now the countries have started increasing the volume of its military such as numbers of soldiers. The countries have already possess enough of some sort of simple weapons such as machine guns, tanks (may be obsolete).
  3. Countries that are well advanced in developing weapons highly sophisticated have changed its policy on weapon export, putting such criteria as;
    – Keep the industry of weapons in operable state where uncontrolled spread of weapons is eliminated. (considering terrorisms etc.)

In the above categories, India might be categorized as 1. India is now extending its policy of self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
